SECTION A: BEING A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER

SECTION A: BEING A PROFESSIONAL TEACHER [37]
Pre-observation insights will help you to define or develop your own perspective on teaching
and learning and prepare you for successful observation of the context in which you are doing
your practical teaching. You must make sure that you understand the goal of each activity and
read the instructions carefully before completing each observation and activity in class.

The activities are based on the outcomes and assessment criteria below. At the end of the
section, make sure that you have met these criteria. This will provide you with valuable insight
for activities in the next section of the portfolio.

Consider the marks allocated to each activity.

Learning outcome

Demonstrate an understanding of key ideas and debates on issues related to teaching practice.

Activity 1: My teaching philosophy (Belief) (16)
What motivated you to be a teacher?
As a student teacher, my motivation to pursue a career in education stems from a deep-
seated belief in the transformative power of learning. I am driven by a profound desire to
inspire and empower young minds, to ignite a passion for knowledge that will propel them
towards a future filled with endless possibilities.

I believe that education is not just about imparting information; it is about nurturing curiosity,
fostering creativity, and instilling a sense of purpose and direction in students. It is about
equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate an increasingly complex
world, to think critically, solve problems, and make informed decisions.

I am excited about the prospect of playing a role, however small, in shaping the future
generation. I see teaching as a noble calling, a chance to make a positive impact on the lives
of others, and to contribute to the betterment of society. I am committed to creating a
classroom environment that is inclusive, supportive, and engaging, where every student feels
valued, respected, and motivated to learn. (2)

Ask one of your mentor teachers about their motivation for entering the teaching profession
and write it down.

Well, as a teacher, I've always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of
young learners. I believe that education is the key to unlocking their potential and shaping
their future. My own teachers had a profound impact on me, and I wanted to pay it forward by
inspiring and guiding the next generation.
