Gezondheidsconditie
 Medisch model: voor individuele problemen bij het kind wordt er gezocht naar
individuele aanpassingen
- Focus op het oplossen van het probleem (bv. A3 formaat, extra tijd toets)
 Sociaal model: het probleem van kind is in interactie met de omgeving, waarbij
er gezocht wordt naar aanpassingen in de omgeving
- Focus op omgeving die het kind beter kan laten functioneren
- Bijvoorbeeld het verbeteren van het klassenmanagement

Onderzoek: Problemen in de klas – artikel 1 (Higgen & Mösko): mentale
gezondheidsproblemen vormen ernstige last voor getroffen student, klasgenoten en
leraren
 Semi-gestructureerde interview met leraar, student en externe partijen
 Bevindingen:
- Externaliserend gedrag: rusteloos, storend, agressief
- Internaliserend gedrag: teruggetrokken gedrag en selectief mutisme
- Hoge eisen (inclusief vanuit thuis)
- Sociale problemen: moeite met vriendschappen sluiten en/of onderhouden
 Vooral bij kinderen met migratieachtergrond
- Somatische symptomen: hoofdpijn en buikpijn
- Moeite met leren: lezen, rekenen, schrijven
- Leraar moet vaardigheden ontwikkelen in omgaan met studenten en extra
tijd besteden aan oplossen van conflicten en trainen sociale competenties
- Leraren ervaren stress omdat ze aandacht moeten verdelen en
problematisch gedrag moeten aanpakken
 Maar:
- Geen interview gehouden met kind met migratieachtergrond en met kind
met mentale gezondheidsproblemen
- Kleine steekproefgrootte (alleen vrouwelijke leerkrachten)
- Focus alleen op basisscholen
