NR 599 Week 6 Midweek Comprehension Question: Summer 2020 As mentioned in this lesson, numerous telecommunications-ready tools are already available to assist nurses in delivering care and improving patients' health outcomes. New and innovative tools are rapidly making it to the marketplace, making current tools dated and sometimes obsolete. Continue to reflect upon the point-of-care tools you may be familiar with using in your role as a Registered Nurse and how your responsibilities will change with your future role as an APN. How will you stay current? Provide a brief response (100 words or less) There are many point-of-care tools that I am familiar with using in my role as a registered nurse. For instance, there are many tools available that help engage my patients in their health. Patient portal applications allow patients to do various things such as view tests and records, make appointments and provide patient education and communication services. This helps nurses, practitioners and patients stay on the same page regarding health concerns and provides clarification and quick access to patient data, test results and a to do list that includes upcoming appointments, test and immunizations. In my future role as an APN my responsibilities will change, and I will be more involved and active in using these apps to prescribe and communicate with patients. I will also be able to quickly communicate with my patients and answer any questions or concerns they may have and have access to real-time patient results and data. Patients will have access to me outside of the office which will make my job easier and ease their worries and concerns while increasing their satisfaction with care. Tools will also make it easier for me to manage numerous patients at one time by keeping things organized and easily accessible. I will stay current by continuously staying up to date on new technology and applications that assist in my delivery of care. I will also remain active in using and teaching my patients how to use the many available tools.
