P4: Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to meet customer needs in
different situations
Work experience scenario
Introduction
My work experience was working with an accountancy firm in Streatham, South London. During this
work experience, I had to deal with both internal and external customers. I mostly dealt with
external customers which were the clients (customers) of the accountancy firm. I believe was able to
build a positive and loyal relationship between me and the customers because I listened to what
they requested and showed kindness to them.
How I provided customer service
Providing excellent customer service is important when working in either job. During my work
experience, I provided excellent customer service. I did this by making eye contact with the clients as
they walked into the workplace. By making eye contact this allowed the client to know that I
acknowledged that they are here and means that I will be listening to what they need.
I also provided excellent customer service by showing kindness and listening hard to what they
requested so that I could try and fulfil their request. By doing this, it meant that the clients felt
valued which shows that I was being loyal to them.
Evaluation of myself
Overall, I think I did very well in my work experience dealing with the clients and providing excellent
customer service to them. However, there is something that I could have improved on to make my
work experience better.
One thing that went really well was that I was able to help the clients get what they requested. This
meant that the clients got to feel valued because I did what they requested by listening hard to what
they wanted so that I could try to fulfil that request. This allowed me to improve my listening skills
and give loyalty to the clients.
However, one thing that could have been improved is my communication with the internal
customers (employees). I barely communicated with the employees in the workplace. This meant
that I didn’t get to know my colleagues very well and meant that I didn’t get to build up my
communication skills during the work experience.
