The chemical name is the active ingredient. Tell where you can find each if the 3 types of pesticide names on a pesticide label - ANSWER-Usually prominent on the ingredient list or below the name. Explain how and why products having the same active indgredient or similar trade names may differ and what that means with respect to choosing and using pesticide products - ANSWER-Manufacturers may use different common names for their products and trade names but still have the same chemical name. Ex. deet Distinguish between carrier, solution, suspension and emulsion - ANSWER-Solution: Substance is dissolved in a liquid. Carrier: The liquid that the pesticide is placed in ie water or oil. Suspension, large participles that are not dissovled so may need agitated. Emulsion: liquids appear separate such as in salad dressing. Emulsifiable Concentrates EC or E - ANSWER-Contain 1 or more petroleum based solvents and an emulsifying agent that allows it to be mixed with water. They are the most versitle formulations, easy to handle, transport and store with little agitation of the tank or damage to nozzles. But the high concentration of active ingredient makes it critical that it is dosed correctly, they may be flammable and dangerous to people as they can be absorbed through the skin.
