DEPTH STUDY PART B: SCIENTIFIC REPORT
AIM: To determine the concentration of a copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate solution of
unknown concentration by colourimetry and precipitation reactions and to compare the
accuracy of the two methods.
HYPOTHESIS: The most effective and accurate method of testing the concentration of an
unknown solution of copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate is colourimetry. The errors involved in
colourimetry is comparatively less than precipitation reactions, thus allowing more accurate
results.
EQUIPMENT:
• Volumetric flask (100mL)
• Colourimeter
• 50ml Beaker
• 140ml Beaker
• Copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate
• Electronic balance
• Spatula
• Distilled water
• Wash bottle
• Thistle Funnel
• Cuvette (1cm x 1cm)
• Stopper
• Volumetric pipette (25mL)
• Pipette filler
• Ring clamp
• Retort stand
• Conical flask
• Filter paper
• Glass funnel
