1.1 You have overhead a conversation about different forms of acquiring citizenship in
South Africa. One member of your community argues that there is no distinction between
the acquisition of citizenship by birth versus acquisition of citizenship by naturalisation.
By way of examples and references to the appropriate law authorities, briefly express your
position regarding the conversation.



1.2 List the documents to be submitted with an application for citizenship by
naturalisation.


Documents to be submitted with an application for citizenship by naturalisation include:


Completed Forms DHA-63 and DHA-757.
SA non-citizen identity document and a copy thereof.
Marriage certificate (if applicable) and a copy thereof. If divorced, include the decree of
divorce and a copy thereof.
Application for the reissue of your identity document, along with two identity document
photographs meeting passport and ID photograph specifications.
Prescribed fee for the reissue of your identity document.
Proof of permanent residence/exemption and a copy thereof.
Form SAP 91 with a full set of fingerprints for applicants 18 years and older to obtain a
police clearance report.
If the applicant is under 18, the application form (BI-63) must be signed by parents or legal
guardian.
Payment of the prescribed fee of R300-00, as per Regulation 2 of the Fourteenth
Amendment of the Regulations made under the South African Citizenship Act 1995.
