Unit 12: responsible tourism (P3, M2, D2)

P3: You need to examine strategies used to maximise positie impacts and minimise negatie
impacts. The eiidence must be supported by examples from:

• Towns or cites

• Countryside

• Seaside destnatons in both MEDW and LEDW

You must demonstrate understanding of the diferent strategies used by giiing details of real
examples to include at least one destnaton for each strategy identied. These can be the same or
diferent destnatons to those used in P1.

A typical example of community projects can be seen by researching Pure Crete, an independent
tour operator that uses tourism income to engage in restoraton schemes to saie traditonal Cretan
houses from derelicton and to conserie endangered species.

In this assignment I will obserie the plans which are used to manage the responsible tourism in the
destnatons. I will also be considering the usefulness s of plans used to accomplish responsible
tourism in destnatons. I will also recommend few improiements to plans used to manage
responsible tourism in a destnaton.

As a long-term atenton in the industry of traiel and tourism; ioluntary, priiate and also public-
sector business merge together in order to maximise the positie features of these sectors. There
are many ways in which they will be able to achieie this, paying atenton to the factors listed below;

Retenton of iisitors spending- when the tourists spend the money in the country that they are in,
the money circulates within the same country without leaiing the country, this is k ow as the
multplier efect. The in charge of the destnaton should manage to keep the money which is spent
by the tourists, by allowing the leakage to be less as possible. This happens when they will need to
by good from another country that s when the money will leaie the country or also to pay the
employees or the shareholder that liie out the country. They can keep the money by using the
locally produced good from the local. In the UK there is a certain proporton of the money which has
been spent by the domestc and the inbound tourists goes directly to the goiernment which help in
improiing the infrastructures, public atractons and also transports. Where as in Kenya the money
which has been spent by the tourists directly goes to helping in preseriing and protectng their
eniironment.

Widening access to facilites- promotng the facilites for tourist to many people helps to increase the
positie impacts in tourism. Also ofering the locals of that areas less price for the tckets so that they
will be to use the same facilites as the tourists. Also by allowing the people with special need the
same entry as the tourists, giiing them the tckets for a lesser price. Many atractons of merlin haie
now become iery disabled friendly. They haie discounted price for the disabled, also they haie they
entrance close to their parking so that it will be easy for them. They also haie disabled toilets which
are made especially for them, not queueing up with the tourist so that they do not haie to wait for a
long tme, they now haie their own queue where they can get go the rode quickly without any
hassle. Kenya also has friendly safaris for the disabled people. They are allowed to tale their
wheelchairs onboard with them. As far for their other customers they meet their needs. For families
they haie a separate jeep which they can hire and explore the safari.
