ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) - answer-Application of the principles of behavior to socially significant issues in order to produce MEANINGFUL and MEASURABLE change. A therapy based on principles to produce positive changes in behavior. NEEDS TO BE INDIVIDUALIZED FOR EACH CHILD How many dimensions of ABA are there? What are they called? - answer-7; applied, behavioral, analytic, technological, conceptual, effective, generality. What are the A-B-Cs of ABA? (three term contingency) - answer-A: Antecedent; This is what occurs before the beavhior; example: RBT asks client to sit down B: Behavior; action as result of antecedent; example: whing or crying C: Consequence; what occurs after the behavior; example: RBT ignoring or redirecting behavior EXAMPLE: (A) teacher telling student to sit down (B) student gets out of seat (C) being told to sit down How is data in ABA collected? - answer-Through measurement of frequency, response latency, rate, and duration. What are some main concepts in ABA? - answer-Operant Conditioning: Giving reinforcement (+/-) after behavior has occurred; the behavior is controlled by its consequences Reinforcement: Anything that increase the frequency of the behavior Punishment: Decreases the likelihood of the behavior What are the four reinforcements in ABA? What is the difference between them? - answer-Positive reinforcement: add pleasant stimulus to increase behavior Negative reinforcement: add aversive stimulus to increase behavior Primary: biological (food, water, clothing, shelter) Secondary: Individual must learn it to be valuable (money) Become reinforcing after they have been associated with other typically primary ones (grades on school tasks, tokens or stickers, social reinforcement What types of punishment are there in ABA? - answer-Positive: adds aversive stimulus to decrease behavior Negative: removes pleasant stimulus to decrease behavior Functions of behavior in ABA - answer-"S-E-A-T" Sensory: looks or feels good; is behavior calming to individual? Automatic reinforcement; clapping or moving makes individual feel good (can also be self-injurious) Escape Attention: is behavior done to get attention from someone? Tangible: access to an item
