ASSIGNMENT 2D
2A Undertake titration and colorimetry to determine the
concentration of solutions.
I had the assignment to make a typical Na2CO3 solution in
2A. By utilising a calibrated weighing balance and the
necessary amount of powdered anhydrous sodium
carbonate, I prepared the standard solution of sodium
carbonate. Then, in order to create a solution with an
accurate volume, I combined it with the specified amount of
distilled water using a volumetric flask. By doing this, I
learned how to use various tools properly, including
volumetric flasks and equipment for calibrating equipment.
In order to create accurate data and conclusions, I was
recording all measurements while I conducted the
experiment. I made the standard solution and then used it to
titrate with methyl orange indicator to standardise the
hydrochloric acid concentration that was provided. Then, I
standardised the sodium hydroxide concentration by titration
using a standard HCL solution. I have done it two diverse
ways, by using a pH metre and an indicator. By doing this, I
gained knowledge of how to use pH metres and burettes as
well as how to take accurate measurements. Following
completion of all measurements, I created a graph based on
my findings. Then I made a 0.1M stock solution of copper
sulphate and diluted it with water to create 4 different
concentrations for the colorimeter. Additionally, I received
two samples of copper sulphate with unknown
concentrations so that I could measure them with a

, colorimeter. I calibrated the colorimeter and took exact
readings to ensure that I was as accurate as possible. I then
built a calibration graph based on my findings after recording
all measurements.
2B Undertake calorimetry to study cooling curves.
I was tasked with creating cooling curves for stearic acid and
paraffin wax in 2B. First, the sample of paraffin wax and
stearic acid was heated in a hot water bath over its melting
point in order to transform it from a solid state to a liquid
state. Then, as they transitioned from a liquid to a solid state,
I took them outside and recorded their temperature every
minute. I carefully took each measurement and recorded it in
order to create a good result table for the graphics. I drew
two distinct graphs for them after they both turned from
liquid to solid. To calculate the gradients of its curves in each
graph, I created three tangents. After identifying gradients, I
was required to describe the velocities of molecules,
intermolecular forces, and other factors in order to arrive at
reliable conclusions about the duration of cooling from start
to finish. I then examined the cooling curves and evaluated
the accuracy of my experiment.
2C Undertake chromatographic techniques to identify
components in mixtures.
I had the assignment in 2C to use chromatography
techniques to separate the components of plant extracts and
amino acid mixtures. To accurately create a chromatogram, I
made sure that I listened to all the guidelines. Then, I used
thin layer chromatography to identify the constituents in
