Clinician A says: "Abnormal behaviour can only be identified and understood if the individual's cultural context is taken into consideration." Clinician A adopts a - - - - - approach to abnormal behaviour, whereas clinician B adopts a/an - - - - - approach to abnormal behaviour. - ansrelativistic; universalist Hluphizwe, 44-years-old, a famous jazz musician, goes to the psychiatrist at the tertiary psychiatric hospital in KwaZulu-Natal. He tells the psychiatrist, that, "I cannot sleep properly anymore. I feel so down these days that, Thoko, my manager had to cancel my nationwide performances for the past three weeks". Hluphizwe feels that he has nothing to live for as his long-time girlfriend left him nine months ago with their young son Bongani, after having been battered by Hluphizwe once too often. Hluphizwe justifies his abusive behaviour by insisting that "she had it coming" and he feels he has done nothing wrong. Recently, he threatened to shoot his girlfriend and then himself. The tour manager felt that he could not trust Hluphizwe to be by himself and drove him to the hospital.
