In secret, he wed Anne More in 1601. After sixteen years of marriage, Anne
passed away five days after giving birth to their twelfth child. He wrote poems
in her honor and wept a great deal for her.
Donne quickly gained recognition for his spiritual poetry and eloquent sermons.
