Stages of the Cell Cycle Latest Update with Verified Solutions Interphase Cell grows, performs its normal functions, and prepares for division; consists of G1, S, and G2 phases Mitosis Cell process in which the nucleus divides to form two nuclei identical to each other ,and identical to the original nucleus, in a series of steps. Cytokinesis The cell's cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the two new cells. G1 Phase [Interphase] In which the cell grows and performs its normal functions. G2 Phase [Interphase] Cell grows and prepares for mitosis. Synthesis Phase [Interphase] a cell's DNA is copied during this phase. at the end of this phase, each chromosome consists of two chromatids attached at the centromere. Prophase [Mitosis]The first step in mitosis where the cell's chromatin condenses into chromosomes. Prometaphase [Mitosis] Nuclear membrane disintegrates, the centrioles reach the poles of the cell, and the chromosomes continue to contract. Metaphase [Mitosis]Motor proteins pull sister chromatids to the cell's equator. Anaphase [Mitosis]The chromatids of each chromosome separate at the centromere and move to opposite poles Telophase [Mitosis] The nucleoli reappear, two new nuclear membranes begin to form, but the cell has not yet completely divided.
