P5 – Demonstrate working as part of a team towards achieving
specifc goals, dealing with any conficts or difcult situaions as a
team leader
While conductng our shop foor, it was key that the objecties of the task were clear. This was done
through the build-up to the eient, where we had to complete our shop. Furthermore, I made sure to
haie a team meetng before the task to ensure that all of the members of the group knew what they
were atemptng to achieie as well as making sure they knew how the project was going to make
sure we met the objecties.
I made sure I was focused by giiing myself a task, which was to make sure the rest of the team knew
where to place the objects, to keep any conficts from escalatng as well as to use the worker who is
best suited for a certain role in that role, rather than using someone who is not as profcient in the
area. I successfully maintained the focus of the other team members by making sure that they had a
job to complete, allocatng a new job if they had fnished their current job, as well as making sure I
was also working alongside them all to help bring the image to fruiton. s eieryone had a role, and
this role refected them as indiiiduals, the group as a whole maintained focus throughout the task.
By maintaining focus as a group, the eient was completed in the shortest amount of tme to a
signifcantly higher standard than if the group was distracted.
s team leader, I needed to haie good interpersonal skills to ensure that I can work with the team
effectiely as well as keep confdence up if an issue arises with the task. rne of the most important
interpersonal skills I used communicaton. I belieie this is the most important skill I used as without
this the team members would not know what they would be undertaking, as well as me being able
to giie them critcal feedback on whether they haie completed this to a sufcient standard.
Communicaton skills are also important to help to diffuse situatons which may arise within the
group.
Listening ability tes in with this ability to communicate. This is because without these skills, I would
be trying to make team members complete the ideas which I haie thought of, which may not be the
best decisions to make, and may result in the substandard completon of the task, therefore it is
essental that I am able to effectiely communicate, as well as listen, to other ideas brought about by
the team.
Problem soliing skills are another key skill I haie which was imperatie when undertaking the task.
This is because the task asked me to complete a foor plan as well as planogram without knowing the
sizes of the aiailable store equipment. Therefore, it is essental that I can solie problems. rne issue
which arose for me was the sizes of the desks we used to store clothing, which were larger than the
desks which I used on my foor plan.
I gaie honest feedback to the rest of the group, which I belieied to be true at the tme. This
feedback was at tmes critcal, howeier, it was essental to ensure that the group understood what
ideas I was pushing towards, with my iiews on how they performed during these situatons.
Likewise, my team also offered honest feedback at how I could haie improied my performance
during the task, which I took on board and used to make myself beter for the next tme I haie to
undertake a similar role.
