SUBMITTED ON - 07/05/2023
TO: IBIKUNLE IDOWU
TOTAL WORD COUNT 1935
INSTITUTION: RICHMOND UPON THAMES COLLEGE
, INTRODUCTION
Throughout this assignment, the working plan will be shown for the research project
on the topic: The effect of temperature and organic solvents on the permeability of
the cell membrane. This work will describe the method that will be used to prove the
hypothesis, as well as the health and safety and risk assessment for the practical.
Contingency planning as well as remedial action the effectiveness of the working
plan will be discussed. What will also be covered in this work is any ethical issues
such as consents and confidentiality.
This research proposal is based on the permeability of the cell membrane in relation
to different temperature degrees and different concentration of organic solvents in
beetroot and red cabbage.
Aim: Investigate how different temperatures and different volumes of organic
solvents can affect the permeability of the phospholipid bilayer of the cell membrane.
Hypothesis: from various sources the permeability of the cell membrane was found
to be affected by numerous factors and temperature and organic solvents are some
of them, that will disrupt the normal function of the barrier.
Table 1: Milestone.
Start date: 20 of February 2023
Milestones: 13 of March – 15 March [research on the background of
the cell membrane and how it is affected by factors such
as Temperature and Solvent Concentrations; the
Bibliography].
15 of March – 17 of March [analysis on the research done
and the relevance it has on the project proposal].
18 of March – 19 of March [Analysis and research on the
various practical methods; choice of best method analysis;
Aims, objectives and Hypothesis].
20 of March – 21 of March [Project limitations and ways to
overcome limitations and analysis of websites used].
06 of June [practical day: using Vegetable 1 with factor
temperature and alcohol factor, afterwards using vegetable
2 with factor temperature and factor alcohol].
07 of June – 21 of June [Structuring data obtained,
completing graphical data, justification of practical
