NCLE Exam Prep Questions and Answers
NCLE Exam Prep Questions and Answers Percentage of water content - Answer ️️ -A lens with greater hydration has the benefits of being soft and flexible (pliable), often making the lens more comfortable. But the high water content may mean more surface deposits, and a shorter life for these lenses. Contact lenses with low water content will feel more rigid when handled and are less likely to have deposits on the surface. Some patients find practice with a low water soft lens allows them to eventually handle the high water lenses with more ease. HYDROGEL Benefits of soft contact lenses: - Answer ️️ -Comfort Shorter adjustment period Good alternative to eyewear for patient with minor corrections Sports. Excellent for athletics because soft lenses will not fall out of the eye More comfortable in dusty environments SILICONE HYDROGEL - Answer ️️ -Silicone hydrogel contact lenses allow more oxygen to pass through the lens to the cornea than regular soft ("hydrogel") contacts. Silicone has higher oxygen permeability. SILICONE HYDROGEL - Answer ️️ -Silicone hydrogel lenses have been approved for wear at all times for up to 30 days. These are FDA standards. However, even though the FDA approves 20 days, the most recent recommendation is to remove the lenses briefly every 7 days. How long each individual patient wears extended contacts is decided by the lens practitioner SILICONE HYDROGEL - Answer ️️ -All contact lenses reduce the amount of oxygen that reaches the front surface of the eye. This can create problems such as red eyes, corneal swelling, blurred vision and eve discomfort, Hypoxia also can increase contact lens wearers' risk for a number of eye infections. SILICONE HYDROGEL - Answer ️️ -Silicone hydrogel lenses were introduced in hopes of decreasing hypoxia related problems and increasing the safety of both daily wear and extended wear of soft contact lenses. BENEFITS OF SILICONE HYDROGEL LENSES - Answer ️️ -The primary benefit of silicone hydrogel lenses is that they reduce the tradeoff between oxygen permeability and wettability. Extended wear Continuous wear Increased comfort and performance CARE OF EXTENDED WEAR LENSES - Answer ️️ -When removed, extended wear lenses must be cleaned and disinfected (unless they are disposable). Patient must be instructed about the approved care of their type of lenses. Patients should leave the lenses out overnight after cleaning and disinfecting them at the end of a wearing cycle. This lets the cornea get a good amount of oxygen. They can be put back in the following morning. ALLERGIC RESPONSE TO SILICONE HYDROGEL LENSES - Answer ️️ -Silicone hydrogel lenses allow more oxygen to reach the surface of the eye; however, the added silicone can reduce the surface wettability of the lenses, potentially making it harder for them to stay moist on the eye. To combat this tendency, new contact lens solutions have been developed that include special wetting agents to keep silicone hydrogel lenses hydrated for all-day wear. Though lens wettability may not be a problem for most wearers, people with marginal dry eyes might notice dryness and discomfort from silicone hydrogel lenses that they didn't experience with previous hydrogel lenses. This dryness-related discomfort can be mistaken as symptomatic of an allergy to silicone hydrogel len
