Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) The part of the central processing unit that performs arithmetic computations and logical operations Control Unit Coordinates activities in the CPU, memory and peripherals Clock Creates pulses to step the control unit through its operations. Increasing the frequency of pulses, or the "clock speed", increases the rate at which the computer can process instructions Registers Very fast memory stored on or near the processor.
