Field-replaceable Unit (FRU) - A part that can be quickly replaced when faulty, or easily upgraded when needed. VGA (Video Graphics Array) port - Used to connect external display devices. Transmits an analog video signal.DVI (Digital Visual Interface) port - Used to connect display devices. Supports single or dual link. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port - Used to send high-quality digital video and audio signals. Used by LCD monitors and HDTVs. Thunderbolt port - Combines PCI Express (PCIe) and DisplayPort signals into a single interface. Can also provide DC power. S-Video (Separated Video) port - Used for connecting external displays. Slightly better picture quality than RCA video ports. USB Type-A - One of the most common computer ports, used to connect a variety of devices. IEEE 1394 port (Firewire) - Used to connect devices that require fast communication speeds, such as external hard drives and video cameras. Considered obsolete with rise in popularity of USB. Audio Jack - Used to send or receive analog audio signals. Uses 3.5 mm TRS connectors to connect devices. S/PDIF port - Used to send a digital audio signal to high-end audio devices, such as home theater systems. RJ45 port - Used to create Ethernet networks by connecting multiple computers and network devices. Has eight connector pins. RJ11 port - Used by telephones and modems to send analog signals. Has four connector pins. Operating system - A set of programs that acts as an interface between the applications that are running on a computer and the computers hardware.
