Summary of the robot assisted therapy lesson given by Prof. T. Tedesco of the subject of rehab technology. It is a summary of the powerpoint slides and additional items noted during the lesson. The slides were in English and my own notes are always in Dutch as much as possible. It is therefore a mix of the 2 languages because it is an English-language master. Everything is in dots, so no complete paragraphs

Rehab tech: tedesco: robot assisted therapy in neuro rehab

1. My PhD research
 UL robotics bij CVA P
 RCT
 Armeospring
 Hoe dosis UL therapy verhogen
- Quality of movement

Behavioural Measurement to test effect
1. ICF
 Meeste trails kijken enkel naar activity & impairment
- Niet naar participatie of ADL

2. Vraag: benefits of UL-robot therapy
 Motivation
 Repetition
 Intensity
 Compensation? Quality of movement
 Neuroplasticity
 Fun + bewegingservaring

Effect of robot therapy on upper limb impairments and activities
1. Effect of RT on the upper limb compared to dose-matched control group in stroke (2020)
 Short and long-term effects of robot assisted therapy on UL motor function and activity of dialy living in
patients post stroke: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trail (Zhang)
- A subgroup analysis of the effect of RAT with different total training time versus non-robotic therapy
on outcome of FM-UE at the end-of treatment
 Robotic: + effect op FM bij langer programma

- Superiority of RAT in improving:
 1) motor control and activity function was observed when it was supplied in passive-active mode
or patient-active mode,
 2) amount of training more than 15 h and to patients with mild to moderate impairment.

, Rehab tech: tedesco: robot assisted therapy in neuro rehab

- A subgroup analysis of the effect of RAT with different total training time versus non-robotic therapy
on outcome of ADL at the end-of-treatment.
 The subgroup analysis indicated that RAT better improved the outcomes of ADL at the end-of-
treatment than controls with the total training time more than 15 h (SMD = 0.32, 95% CI 0.12 to
0.53, P = 0.002),
 and had no additional benefit with the total training time ≤ 15 h (SMD = 0.25, 95% CI − 0.00 to
0.51, P = 0.05)

 robot assisted training for UL after stroke (RATULS): a multicentre randomized controlled trail ( Rodgers)
- Robot-assisted training and EULT programmes were delivered at the same frequency and duration:
 45 min of face-to-face therapy, 3 / week for 12 weeks.
- Moderate-severe impairment
- Usual care- enhanced BL training- robot training
- Low dosage
- (C) ARAT total score.
- (D) Pair-wise comparison of ARAT total score
- (E) Fugl–Meyer motor score.
- (F) Pair-wise comparison of Fugl–Meyer motor score.
- In (C) & (E), horizontal black line = median, box = IQR, whiskers extend to
closest value within upper / lower quartile ± 1·5 multiplied by IQR; black
dots = any values outside of this range.
- *ARAT=Action Research Arm Test. EULT=enhanced upper limb therapy.
RT=robot-assisted training. UC=usual care.
- Stijgen bij enhanced & robotic
 Ook usual verbeteren
o ≠ grote verschillen tussen groepen
 Mogelijk door lage dosis
- Ook kijken naar QOLstroke impact scale
 ≠ verschil tussen de 3 groepen
