Standaard economisch model

3. Beperkt egoïsme → Eigen belangen opofferen

Behavioral economics studies the ways in which behavior differs from the standard
economic model in order to improve the explanation of economic behavior

The cost-benefit approach to decisions

andere activiteiten

Common pitfalls in decision making
1. Impliciete kosten negeren
2. Sunk costs meerekenen
3. Kosten en baten in relatieve i.p.v. absolute
termen afwegen

Using marginal benefit and marginal cost

kosten (MO=MK).
- Boten inzetten zolang marginale baten ≥ marginale kosten

Demand
Demand curve: How much buyers want to purchase for each possible price → Horizontal
interpretation (The price is €20; how much will the demand be)

Inverse demand curve: The price at which buyers would demand specific quantities of the
product → Vertical interpretation (The demand is 4000, how much will the price)

Law of demand:
Demand curves are always downward sloping → When the price of a product falls, demand for the
product will increase

Supply
Supply curve: The quantity that sellers are willing to supply at any possible price →
Horizontal interpretation

Inverse supply curve: The price at which sellers would supply specific quantities of a
product → vertical interpretation

Equilibrium (evenwicht) = pareto efficiënt → No reallocation can make some people better off without
harming at least one other person

,Prices
Price ceiling = a level beyond which prices are not permitted to rise
- A price ceiling below the equilibrium price creates excess demand
- A price ceiling above the equilibrium has no effect

Price support
- A price support (floor price) keeps prices above their equilibrium levels
- This leads to excess supply and requires the government to become an active
buyer in the market
→ Voor voedselzekerheid

Prices serve two important functions:
- Rationing function of price - Equilibrium prices ration scarce supplies to the users
who place the highest value on them
komen bij de consumenten die bereid zijn om er het meeste voor te betalen;
Gebeurt continu
- Allocative function of price - Signals to direct productive resources among
different sectors of the economy
- Lange termijn functie

Factors that shift the demand curve
● Incomes
- Normal goods: Quantity demanded at any price rises with income
- Inferior goods: Quantity demanded at any price falls with income (huismerk producten)
● Tastes
● Price of substitutes and complements
- Complements: An increase in the price of one good decreases demand for the other good
- Substitutes: An increase in the price of one good will increase the demand for the other
● Expectations
● Population size

, Factors that shift the Supply Curve
● Technology
- A cost-saving invention increases supply
● Factor prices
- An increase in factor prices decreases supply
● The number of suppliers
● Expectations
- If prices are expected to increase in the future, there may be a decrease in current supply
● Weather
