ASA I CORRECT ANSWER Normal, healthy patient without systemic disease; non-smoking with no or minimal alcohol use ASA II CORRECT ANSWER A patient with mild to moderate systemic disease or are healthy ASA I patients who have more extreme anxiety towards dentistry. Can walk up one flight of stairs or two level city blocks but will have to stop after completion because of distress -well controlled diseases such as non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2), preHTN, epilepsy, asthma or thyroid conditions, pregnancy, smoker (without COPD), social drinker and obesity (30 < BMI < 40) ASA III CORRECT ANSWER Patients have one or more moderate to severe systemic diseases that limits activity but is not incapacitating; Pts are able to walk up one flight of stairs or two level city blocks but need to stop enroute bc of distress. -History of more than 3 months of angina, transient ischemic attack, myocardial infarction, CVA, CHF, coronary artery disease with stents, slight-COPD, poorly controlled insulin dependent diabetes or HTN as well as obesity (BMI >40), active hepatitis, alcohol dependence or abuse, implanted pacemaker, end-stage renal disease with dialysis.
