They live there with all the children of the city who had been born the year. The Home of the Students is where men stay until they reach their 15th year. The Home of the Street Sweepers is Equality's home after he is given a career by the Council of Scholars Why was Equality pleased with his Life Mandate? Because it was lucky that they got a Life Mandate at all because of how many crimes they committed prior to getting the Life Mandate. Describe a typical day in Equality's life. Equality spends their days cleaning the streets of the City. Later in the book he meets "The Golden One" and spends time everyday speaking to her. What is ironic about the Social Meeting? The Social Meeting is supposed to be a fun time but none of the people have any fun. Its supposed to be a social environment but no one talks. Why are friends forbidden? Friends are forbidden because it is a great crime to prefer one over another What is Equality's crime? He is too smart. Also, he created something without his brothers' help. Who is Liberty and what does she do? Liberty is a woman whom meets Equality while he is working on the streets. She works in the fields and she speaks to Equality even though its against the rules, they give each other special names which is also against the rules. What is a Transgression of Preference? How did Equality commit such a transgression or transgressions? That is liking a person more than you like everyone else. He commits this by being friends and giving Liberty a special name and loving her. The Time of Mating is when one man and one woman are chosen to have a baby together. Equality thinks of this as a shameful matter because you are never able to see your children and you can't be with your mate. What is the Time of Mating? Why does Equality think of being sent to the Palace of Mating as being a "shameful matter"? .How are children raised in Equality's society? Children are raised without their biological parents; they stay in the House of Infants until they are 5 Why doesn't Liberty want Equality to be one of her brothers? Because then he would be the same as everyone and not unique. Why does Equality care about Liberty's age? He cares because he wants to keep her out of the House of Mating. They live in fear and don't think for themselves What is wrong with Equality's brothers? .Why is Equality afraid of the Uncharted Forest? He has learned that they might have possessed it in the Unmentionable Times and there might be a relation. Why does Equality think that the Council of Scholars is blind? They don't see the secrets of the earth and they think all the things about earth are known to all. What is Liberty's Life Mandate? She works in the fields. What did Equality intend to do with his discovery? He intended to show it to the World Council of Scholars and then become a scholar. What is the World Council of Scholars and why is it significant? The World Council of Scholars is the wisest of all the lands, they meet once a year in different cities. .Why now does Equality feel the need to guard his tunnel?
