The Brain:
PART OF THE FUNCTION
BRAIN
CEREBRUM The cerebrum is the largest part of the human brain.
It is responsible for the elements of the nervous system
associated with being human (e.g. conscious thought,
imagination, intelligence, factual memory & reasoning).
It is divided into two hemispheres connected by the corpus
callosum.
CEREBELLUM Folded surface – much smaller than cerebrum.
Contains over half the nerve cells in the brain.
Responsible for coordination, balance, posture, eye movement
and fine movement.
It processes sensory information from the retina, the balance
organs if the inner ears & the joints.
MEDULLA Forms the link between the brain and spinal cord.
OBLANGATA Controls non-skeletal muscles.
Coordinates & controls involuntary movements such as
breathing.
Regulatory centres for many vital processes are found in the
medulla.
