The purpose of the ACT is to promote public health and safety On what date did the laws of this act go into effect? January 1st 1934 Define bureau The Bureau of professional occupational Affairs in the Department of State Define Department The commissioner of professional and occupational Affairs in the Department of State Define board The State Board of Cosmetology of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Define affiliation Any person who is a school owner, stockholder, member of the Board of Trustees or the Board of Governors, any professional employees of consultant, or non-professional employee in any part-time employee of a school of cosmetology Define cosmetology Includes any and all work done for compensation by any person, which work is generally performed by a cosmetologist, which is for embellishment, cleanliness and beautification of the human hair; such as arranging, dressing, curling ,waving, cutting, singeing, lightning, coloring, pricing or similar work and removal of unwanted hair even the massaging, cleansing, stimulating, exercising or the use of mechanical of electrical apparatus or cosmetics/tonics , which enumerated practices shall be inclusive of the term cosmetology but not limitation thereof. Define cosmetologist Any individual licensed and engaged in the practice of Cosmetology. Define nail technology The practice of manicuring the nails, applying artificial or sculpted nails, massaging the hands or lower arms up to Elbow, massaging the feet or lower legs up to the knee or the combination of these acts Define nail technician An individual licensed by the State Board of cosmetologist to engage in the practice of nail technology What are the exclusions of nail technology The term does not include the removal of corns or calluses but does include the removal of thin dry skin for cosmetic purposes with a pumice stone or similar non-metal instrument Define esthetician An individual engaged exclusively in the practice of massaging the face, applying creams, removal of unwanted hair by using depiliatories, wax, or tweezing and tinting eyebrows and eyelashes Define tanning unit An electrical device that uses ultraviolet rays to tan the skin cosmetically or to treat certain skin and scalp conditions Who regulates tanning unit requirement? The US Food and Drug Administration Define Booth space Any area, separated or not separated in a salon which designed to be used by licensed teacher, manager, operator, cosmetician or manicurist not affiliated with that salon Is the rental or Booth space permitted in a salon Not in the state of Pennsylvania How many members make up the state board?
