Read and reflect upon the Healthy Community Brookfield (HCB) Case Study. Put yourself in the position of Jack Price, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of HCB. As the governance leader for HCB, you will spend time tomorrow orienting Richard Russell, the new Executive Director, to the organization. Create a 3-4 page agenda in bullet-point format with detailed notes for the new executive's orientation. At a minimum, you should consider the following as you prepare an agenda. • Brief overview of HCB • Role of Board of Directors and Chairman in planning and decision-making • Board expectations of new Executive Director • Significance of the organization's history • Programs and services • Community relations • Organization's staff - culture and engagement • Vulnerable programs, unmet community needs and financial uncertainty • Quality improvement program needs • Overall strengths and weaknesses of the organization Healthy Community Brookfield  Healthy Community Brookfield (HCB) offers community based health programs in the mid-western county of Brookfield. The Healthy Community Brookfield (HCB) initiative is a means of bridging the gap created by the limited resources of the Brookfield’s County Health Department. Healthy Community Brookfield recognizes this gap and strives to promote health improvement practices by creating awareness, towards the realization of a healthy community.  The role of the Board of Directors in planning and decision making includes; employing, evaluating and monitoring the executive director; negotiating and approving contracts; ensuring that the operations of the organization are within the law; approving budgets and assessing the financial policies and reports; setting the strategic plan that includes vision and mission statements of the organization (Kennelly 6).  Expectations of the Board of Directors on the new Executive Director include; assisting the board in fulfilling the organization’s vision and mission statements; proper resource utilization to maintain the organizations financial health by creating and putting into effect the annual financial budget; supervise and manage organization staff and directors in the day to day operations through administrative procedures and policies; organize fundraising events and marshalling for resources.  Healthy Community Brookfield was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization. It has encountered serious challenges with managing the resources at its disposal due to lack of proper strategic planning. This has led to most programs offered by the organization to be discontinued due to a lack of continuous funding. Programs that have been discontinued initially include; teen’s nutrition education classes, courses for babysitting, support groups for caregivers and bereavement support. As a nonprofit organization, a continuous revenue stream would be beneficial to ensure that all its programs do not stall which calls for a reduction in the dependence on the County of Brookfield.  Programs and services offered by Healthy Community Brookfield currently are; medical services for women’s health; contracts with the county health department for immunization and vaccination, newborn care and prenatal health, smoking cessation support; classes for new diabetes diagnostics cases; testing well water; prevention of gender based violence; after hospital care for the elderly; public school and after school teens health programs.
