Learning Outcome 1: Know how human resources are managed
Human resources:
Recruitment and retention of staff – The recruitment of staf
within a business is generally a common thing especially in
businesses that employ a younger generation as students can
often change jobs or may need to drop their job because of the
workload. A business must be able to recruitment people on a
regular basis in order to make sure they have the staf required to
the job. An example of a company that will have to recruit often
is McDonalds as they often have people coming and going form
their business as they are well known for employing people with
no experience at all and will provide full training and often have
part time hours available which are the most common contract
type students will desire.
A company will use an applicant form to gather the information from a potential candidate;
this is done in order to single out the more suitable candidates whilst in the recruitment
process. An applicant form will require the candidate to fill in personal details about
themselves giving the organisation the essential pieces of information required to employ a
particular candidate.
The retention of staf is the process of which a company will want to keep their staf so there
is not a constant cycle of staf in and out of the business, this can also help keep consistency
within the business. The retention of staf is especially important when a staf member is an
asset to the company and may even be over performing, if this employing is part minded in
leaving, the business will need to provide the employee with an incentive to stay; this can
include a pay rise or hours that are more flexible.
Resource requirements – Within a job
depending on the job role, various pieces of
equipment and resources are required in
order to carry out the job more quickly and
efectively. It is an employer’s responsibility to
provide the correct resources to its staf. One
example of this would be a forklift is required
in order to lift heavy objects from point A to
point B and without it, the job is almost
impossible. This is the reason why the
employer is obliged to provide that resource
in the same way that a job in accounting or
anything that requires the use of a computer.
