Introduction
This report will talk about electronic and non-electronic communication
methods used within a business. Under non-electronic methods, both written
and non-written approaches will be looked at. The audience requirements will
also be looked at and examples relating to Tesco will be outlined to help a
better understanding.
Communication methods need to be adapted to suit the recipients of the
information’s needs, in order to ensure effectivity. It can be written or verbal,
but having knowledge about the audience and its features could help
significantly different situations, for example when getting ready for a
presentation. Having an idea of who is going to be watching the presentation
allows the communicator to take into consideration the needs of everybody
and in turn adapt it to the audience. For example, if somebody who is
partially sighted was to be present, changes need to be made to ensure that
the presentation is just as effective for that person as it is for everybody else.
In most work places being skilled and an effective communicator absolutely
essential, especially in higher managerial positions.

Audience Requirements
There are many things that a communicator needs to consider including time
slots, impact made within the first few minutes when presenting, matching
expectations and the audience’s needs. First impressions have a significant
effect –they can be a deal breaker to the success of onwards communication.
There are certain interpersonal expectations that people will have as to how
a meeting should go and if these turn out to be substantially different that
what actually takes place, communication is unlikely to run smoothly.
The audience requirements depend on numerous factors, three of which will
be explained further below:
 age and attention span
 gender and ethnicity
 special needs and accessibility
 reading ability
 legibility
 interest
 distractions
 experience/knowledge
The age of the audience needs to be considered because younger people
tend to prefer different communication methods as compared to elderly
people. They are more content with using technology than other age groups,
for example pensioners. Age also relates to attention spans –younger people
tend to have shorter ones as compared to older people, meaning that they
