Biopsychosocial Population Health Policy Proposal
Policies are among the different methods used to introduce practices and guidelines that
help address health issues and challenges affecting individuals and healthcare practice. The nurse
practitioners are among the health care providers and professionals with the responsibility to
advocate for such policies. In this case, severe obesity among children and adolescents is
identified and the different available interventions used identified. One of the interventions in
focus was bariatric surgery. This is an effective intervention used to reduce and manage obesity
in adolescents with severe obesity. It has been found to help in weight reduction, improve quality
of life of the patients (Roberts, 2021). However, there is the weakness of lack of sustainability
associated with this method (Ahn, 2020). In other words, it is not very effective as a long term

worried about gaining the weight back. With this in mind, it is important to develop a health
policy that can help enhance the outcome and sustainability of this intervention among
adolescents. This paper focuses on proposing a health policy that will help address obesity in
adolescents in a sustainable manner.
Proposed Policy and Guidelines

holistic approach. This addresses the individual’s physical, emotional, psychological, social and
