NSG 6435 Peds Week 1 Discussion STUDY MODE Latest Review 2023 Practice Questions and Answers, 100% Correct with Explanations, Highly Recommended, Download to Score A+ What are the sources of pediatric primary care in the United States? Are these sources sufficient for providing health-care services to the pediatric population? Why or why not? All children have the right to have ideal health and access to services. A resource available to parents and providers that has a wealth of information is Bright Futures. Bright Futures initiative is health promotion foundation that provides parents with the means to empower them with knowledge and skills to promote the developmental needs of their children. Additionally, it offers providers with the delivery of orientated care through prevention-based education (Burns, et al., 2017). The sources of delivery for pediatric primary care include primary care offices, health departments, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, specialty physicians, and clinic (Burns, et. al., 2017). Home visits and care coordination programs are also available to those in poverty and or those with special needs children that are funded by federal or state programs (Beck et. al., 2016). Are there certain pediatric populations that lack access to health-care services? Why? Access to health-care services is vital to promote and sustain health. The quality of health-care services reduces unnecessary disabilities or death by preventing and managing diseases. To achieve the best pediatric health outcomes it is important to have a personal relationship with a provider you trust, one that is easily accessible by their geographic location, and health insurance availability (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2018). Unfortunately, there are certain pediatric populations that lack access to health-care services. Those from underserved populations with low-incomes and minority households lack the access to their health care needs. Additionally, those that live in a geographic with a workforce shortage have less access to pediatric primary care services (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2018). Latino and Black children are affected most and it has been reported they are 4 times more likely to be in poor or fair health (Kuo, et al., 2012). According to the Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality (2011), those with language barriers such as Hispanics do not have access for their health-care needs.
