This assignment has achieved distinction. But the assignment also has some resubmission work at the end. After resubmission it has achieved distinction grade and has met all the criteria on the brief. I hope this assignment helps you. This assignment also consists of graphs and results from the experiments.

Criteria covered by this task:
Unit/Criteria
To achieve the criteria, you must show that you are able to:
reference
Explain principle electrical terms, quantities and relationships for
A. P1
given situations
Accurately construct a range of circuits and record appropriate
B. P2
values accurately using suitable measurement devices

, Demonstrate, by calculation, the use of principal electrical terms,
A.M1
quantities and relationships for given situations
Compare predicted and calculated fundamental electrical values for
B.M2
a range of circuit assembles

Evaluate, by calculation and graphical representation, the operation
A. D1
of a range of circuit assemblies using measured values

,Section 1 – Electrical symbols, units and definitions

Components Symbol

Cell - a cell is a device that generates
electricity by using chemical energy.

Battery - it is a device that takes chemical
energy and changes it to electrical energy.

Switch – it is an electrical component that can
Interrupt and divert an electric current from one
conductor to another by disconnecting or
connecting the conducting channel in an
electrical circuit.

Filament lamp -it is a type of bulb that is
widely used. With a thin layer of wire that
generates light sources. It is also a common
light lamp used for testing the electrical circuit
Whether the circuit is closed or open. The
resistance of a lamp increases as temperature
of its filament increases.

Fixed resistor -
It has fixed and defined resistance which is not
adaptable.

Thermistor
 Some devices break the rule we've just
explained and reduce their resistance as
temperature increases.
 This is because the extra energy makes
the atoms release electrons, allowing

, them to move more easily.

Light emitting diode (LED)
 They are made of semiconductors,
material with few charge carriers
available for conduction because
electrons are bound unless stimulated.
 Used as temperature sensor
Large change in resistance when
temperature changes.

Light dependent resistor (LDR)
 Light energy falling on LDR liberates
electrons from their atoms.
 Increasing light level increases the
number of electrons and decreases
resistance.
 Used as light sensors

Rheostat
 A resistor with different resistances for
controlling current.

Capacitor
 It is a device that stores electrical
charge, containing one or more pairs of
conductors separated by an insulator.

Voltmeter
It is an instrument used to measure electric
potential. Measured in volts.
