State Board of Cosmetology and Barber Exam Practice

"Agency" Refers to the Indiana professional licensing agency. "Board" Refers to the state board of cosmetology and barber examiners. "License" Means a document issued by the agency and the board to permit a person to engage in an activity regulated under this article. How many board members are there? Seven. The governor shall appoint all the members of the board. Board member qualifications (a) Each of the members of the board must reside in Indiana. (b) The members of the board must meet the following qualifications: (1) Two of the members must: (A) possess a current cosmetologist license; and (B) have practiced cosmetology in Indiana continuously for at least five years immediately before appointment. (2) Two of the members of the board must: (A) possess a current barber license; and (B) have practiced barbering in Indiana continuously for at least five years immediately before the appointment. (3) One of the members must be an owner or operator of a beauty culture school. However, the member may not be a licensed barber or cosmetologist. (4) One of the members must be licensed as an electrologist, an estheician, or a manicurist. (5) One of the members must not have any association with the practice of beauty culture, except as a cosumer. Quorum The board must have a quorum to transact business. Four members of the board constitute a quorum. Licensed activity separate from residence. A person may not engage in any activity licensed under this article in a structure that contains a residence unless the residence: (1) is separated from the place where the licensed activity occurs by a substantial floor to ceiling partition; and (2) has a separate entry. Application; A person must file a verified application for a cosmetologist license with the board on a form prescribed by the board to obtain that license. The application described in section 2 of this chapter must state that the applicant: (1) is at least 17 years of age; (2) has successfully completed the tenth grade or received the equivalent of tenth grade education; (3) has graduated from a beauty cultural school; (4) has received a satisfactory grade on an examination for cosmetologist license applicants prescribed by the board; (5) has not committed an act for which the applicant could be disciplined under and prop. tax, DUI, child support, felony, drugs; (6) has paid the fee set fourth in Sanitary rules given to licenses The board shall furnish each person licensed to operate: (1) a beauty culture salon; or (2) a beauty culture school; with a copy of the rules Change of license address; No later than 30 days following the change. Individual license display A person who holds any license issued under this chapter except the licenses described in section 11 of this chapter shall display the license in a conspicuous place in that person's work area in the beauty culture salon, or beauty culture school where the person is employed.
