Stopping distance The distance it takes for you to recognize the hazard, process the need to stop, apply the brakes, and come to a complete stop. Reaction distance The distance the fire apparatus ravels after you recognize the hazard, remove your foot from the accelerator, and apply the brakes. Braking distance The distance the fire apparatus travels from the time that the brakes are activated until the fire apparatus makes a complete stop.
