which are: formoterol, levalbuterol, salmeterol, terbutaline
Nursing interventions for the adverse effect of chain pain r/t to beta2 adrenergic agonists? - dosage
may need to be reduced
observe chest, jaw, or arm pain in palpitations and notify provider
check pulse and report an increase of greater than 20-30/min
AVOID CAFFEINE
How do you educate a client how to use a BECLOMETHASONE INHALER? (Glucocorticoid) - Use the
glucocorticoid inhalers on a regular, fixed schedule for long-term therapy of asthma
Glucocorticoids are not to treat an acute episode
If the pt. is prescribed both a beta2 adrenergic agonist inhaler and glucocorticoid inhaler:
1) inhale beta agonist inhaler
2) inhale glucocorticoid
(beta promotes bronchodilation to enhance absorption of glucocorticoid)
, Evaluating client understanding of montelukast? PT1 - therapeutic use: long-term therapy of asthma in
adults and children, and to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm
montelukast is used in children as young as 12 mo. of age
Zafirlukast is used in children 5 yo. and up
Zileuton is used in adolescents and adults
complications: depression, suicidal ideation, liver injury with use of zileuton and zafirlukast
contraindication/precautions: Montelukast and zafirlukast are pregnancy B and Zileuton is C
USE W/ CAUTIO WHO HAVE LIVER DYSFUNCTION
interactions: Zileuton and zafirlukast interact with warfarin and theophylline
Montelukast and phenytoin interact
Evaluating client understanding of montelukast? PT2 - nursing administration: zileuton without food
and 1 hr before or after a meal
zafirlukast take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals
take montelukast once daily at bedtime. For exercise-induced bronchospasm take 2 hr before exercise
nursing evaluation for medication effectiveness: depending on therapeutic intect, effectiveness is
evidenced by long term control of asthma
