Med Surg Hesi Concepts Lupus- TeACHinG [326-328 cH 18] SLE:Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks itself, causing major inflammation in the skin, joints, kidneys, & heart resulting in organ failure over time, most often in the kidneys. Causes & Risks:unknown cause, most cases are women 14-45 years of age, UV radiation from sun makes it worse S/S: butterfly shaped rash (cheeks & nose), fever higher than 100F=REPORT TO PCP, joints (painful & swollen) Labs: Creatinine over 1.3 = bad Kidney, decreased WBC (norm=5k-10k), inflammation (Increased ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate)
