1.ATP: energy rich molecule that powers cellular activities
2.Creation of ATP / Cellular respiration: •Glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle (Kreb's Cycle), Electron transport chain.
•Provides cells with the energy they need to function from breaking down sugar.
•Cellular respiration + Oxygen = ATP
3.Glycolysis: Break down glucose (with 6 C atoms) into 2 pyruvic acid molecules to create 2 ATP molecules
(C6--> 2P + 2ATP)
4.Citric Acid Cycle: Body breaks down pyruvic acid to make 2 more ATP and release electrons (P---> 2 ATP)
5.Electron Transport Chain: •Body uses electrons to produce most of it's ATP.
•All high energy electrons from glycolysis and CAC are used.
•Electrons interact with enzymes that store energy in the electrons
in ATP mole- cules. (+36-38 ATP)
6.Catabolism: Break down of substances into simpler building blocks
7.Anabolism: •Synthesize more complex structures from simpler ones
•Used to make ATP
8.Metabolism: Chemical reactions in the body that allow us to function
