ELLA DIJO QUE PODÍA HACERLO Y LO HIZO

Quiero hablar sobre una mujer que consiguió algo muy importante en el mundo del
deporte, que desgraciadamente, en aquel momento, estaba dominado por hombres.
Es Charlotte Reinagle Cooper, una británica nacida en 1870 en Londres. En esa
época no estaba bien visto que las mujeres practicasen deportes, en cambio,
Charlotte desde pequeña había tenido una gran afición por el tenis y siempre contó
con el apoyo de sus padres.

Tras años de entrenos, se convirtió en una tenista muy completa. Destacaba por su
excelente movilidad, su estrategia de ataque y su gran solidez. En 1893, con tan
solo veintitrés años, ganó su primer torneo profesional. Dos años después,
consiguió su primer Grand Slam: Wimbledon. Este era y actualmente sigue siendo
un campeonato soñado para cualquier tenista. Durante su carrera consiguió ganar
cinco Wimbledons.

Un momento importante en la historia fueron los Juegos Olímpicos de París, en
1900, cuando por primera vez se permitió la participación de las mujeres. Charlotte
Cooper logró hacer algo que ninguna mujer antes había conseguido: ganó la final
femenina de tenis de los Juegos Olímpicos. Fue la primera mujer en ganar un título
olímpico individual. Estos JJ.OO. fueron un gran avance para la mujer en el mundo
del deporte.

Admiro mucho a esta mujer, porque sé lo difícil que es llegar a un nivel tan alto
como para ganar cinco Wimbledons y unos Juegos Olímpicos. Es el sueño de
cualquiera a quien le guste el tenis y lo practique. También me ha llamado mucho la
atención un récord que batió, y que en hoy en día sigue vigente. Es la persona más
veterana en ganar Wimbledon, con treinta y siete años y doscientos ochenta y dos
días. Pero sobre todo, la admiro por luchar en un mundo machista y demostrar que
las mujeres también pueden practicar deporte.
