, SUMMARY
1. The story begins in the cemetery at Aunt Janet's funeral.
• The following people are at the funeral: uncle Hennie (aunt Janet's husband), Liam
and his family, the pastor, Christiaan and his family, aunt Janet's family and
friends.
• Liam realizes what Christiaan can do.
• Liam is in a lot of pain because his shoes are crushing him and mum is yelling for
him to stand still.
• There is a chest with a white bouquet of flowers on it.
• The people look very sad.
• Uncle Hennie looks very tired.
how you feel when something important is taken away and you don't know what to
do now.
2. Today, at the funeral, is the second time ever that Liam sees Chritiaan.
3. It starts to rain.
4. Christiaan stands in front of his parents:
• he stares into Liam's eyes
• his face is stern
• his lips are blue and bloodless from the cold.
5. Christiaan's eyes darken and now he stares at uncle Hennie, then he says:
"Stop!...she's not dead...look she's standing behind uncle Hennie"
"Can't you see her? There she stands...she smiles"
6. For weeks no one talks about what happened.
7. Liam starts dreaming about Christiaan and often wakes up drenched in sweat.
8. He wants to talk to his nieces and nephews about this, but they always answer:
"we're not allowed to talk about him, Liam...he's weird"
9. Liam begins to forget about Christiaan and is happy about it. But then he makes
his appearance again...
10. This is just when Liam was going through a difficult (a messy time): things at
school were not good:
