Chapter 1 the evolution of psychology
Psychology has evolved significantly over the years, with various schools of thought emerging and developing. Early approaches included structuralism, which focused on identifying the basic elements of the mind, and functionalism, which looked at the adaptive purposes of behaviors. Behaviorism emerged in the early 20th century, emphasizing the study of observable behaviors and their environmental causes, while psychoanalytic theory focused on the role of unconscious processes in behavior. In the 1960s, the cognitive revolution brought about a renewed focus on mental processes such as thinking and problem-solving. Today, psychology incorporates a wide range of perspectives and disciplines, from neuroscience and genetics to social and cultural influences on behavior.
