International Business – Task 1

Introduction

The organisation I will be focusing on throughout this report will be Nike. Nike is an American
company founded in 1964. It sells footwear, sports apparel, equipment and accessories. It is now
one of the world’s largest suppliers of athletic footwear. This report will look into how
organisations trade internationally and how companies are affected by the international business
environment.

International Business

International Business is a business that sets up in more than one country and one that
exchanges goods and services in multiple countries. Nike would be a good example of this as
they have expanded their company worldwide in order to sell more goods.

What is the value of the world trade?

As you can see from the graph, the value of the world trade
has increased significantly over the course of 20 years. In
1980, the value of the world trade was roughly $2.4 trillion,
and then in 2010 it was over $16 trillion. This is quite clear
that the value of the world trade is increasing. The reasoning
behind the increase of the value would be the fact that
communication is so much easier and trading has become
easier due to this.

What are the trends of world trade?

The main trends of World Trade are that it has gone up. More and more countries have begun to
trade with each other and thus, more countries have been able to get more products into their
country.

Trends that can affect world trade can be things like changes in the economy; for example, if a
specific country were to go through a recession then this would affect how the entire country
trades. They would not be able to get as much trade in, but would try to make as much of a profit
as possible when trading to other countries.

Another trend that has majorly affected world trade positively is the way that countries are now
able to communicate. Compared to 30 years ago, companies are able to speak to each other
easily and it allows them to have direct contact with consumers. This means that it can allow
them to gain a bigger profit and provide products that they need.
