Task 4 – Plan and Participate in a Selection Interview P4
Previous Interview Practice
I have only participated in three interviews, one being for my part-time work ……. ,another the
Career Ready course at the college, and the last one for a job at …….. I feel as though my interview
for my part-time work went extremely well considering I had not had any previous practice prior to
this and I was not sure in what I was expecting. I answered every question fully and made sure I
related it back to my past experience. The lady interviewing me asked me around 15 questions, and
then she wrote down my answers in brief on the booklet she had to fill out. Upon leaving this
interview, I received a call a week later saying I had not gotten the job. However, after around 3 days
I got another call saying they would like to offer me it. The lady who interviewed me ended up being
my mentor and supervisor for work, and she said that I came across very confident and answered
questions well considering I had not had any past experience in interviews. She also stated that my
knowledge about the brand was very good and showed I was interested in working for them; which
helped me get the job.
For the Career Ready interview I was extremely nervous as I had not met or heard of the people
interviewing me before and prior to this I had to do a lot of research on what the Career Ready
course was and what it entailed. I was dressed smartly for this interview and I came prepared. My
interview was hosted by Roger and Karen. They were both very nice and knew what they were
talking about which put me at ease. They also asked me a lot of questions to do with my future and
what I wanted to do. Personally, I enjoyed this interview as it felt like they took an interest in me and
were interested in seeing why the Career Ready course would work for me. The interview lasted
roughly 30 minutes. On reflection, I feel as though this interview went very well however I could
have improved by coming across a little more confident.
My last interview was for a receptionist job at …... I heard about this job on their Facebook and
decided to apply. Within a few days of applying, they asked me to come in for an interview. The man
hosting my interview was very unprofessional and did not come across like he knew what he was
doing. The interview did not go on for very long as it said that my previous experience with
customers meant that the job was there for me to take and he was convinced I would be perfect for
the job. When asking about previous working hours and wages, he said that they had a benefit
scheme which allows employees to earn a little bit more monthly. He was unsure of how much this
was and ended up having to Google it on his phone. After coming out the interview, I felt as though
it was very unstructured and very unprofessional, even for a part-time job. I did not feel as though
the manager knew what he was talking about and he did not convince me to work for them. Before I
went in for the interview, I made sure to research about Rollerworld and found out when they first
opened, what they offer and how customers view them. By doing this means that I have prepared
myself for possible questions such as ‘Tell me what you know about our organisation’.
In order to prepare for my interview I thought about questions I could be asked and questions that I
could ask the interviewer. These questions included: why do you want to work for this organisation?
