Early Development Case Intervention Analysis
Christopher is a twenty-four year old adult who lives in New York State. He currently
lives back home with both of his biological parents. Christopher is the youngest of four siblings
of varying ages, and does not feel he can relate to them, due to the different stages of life they are
currently in. As Christopher has been living back at home, he has become more stressed and
agitated when confrontations, especially with his mother, arise. Due to his frustration and anger,
he does not feel comfortable speaking to his parents about his frustrations because he believes
that will create another argument, in addition to them comparing him to his siblings.
Since Christopher is younger than all his siblings, he is often compared to them in regards
to where he is currently with his job as well as current level of schooling. Whenever these topics
are brought up to Christopher, he immediately becomes on the defensive as well as agitated.
Since Christopher has been going through this current developmental stage, he has been
becoming more anxious in regards to where he will be, and what he will be doing for the rest of
his adult life. His behaviours have been proven increasingly frustrating for his parents, especially
his mother, who feels he should not be having these issues, and thinks he is just being lazy.
Through these displayed behaviours, it has become apparent that Christopher seems to be
facing difficulties in areas of career development issues such as work motivation and work
related stress and burnout. During young adulthood, those faced with lowered work motivation
as well as burnout stress are increasingly considered as an erosion of a positive psychological
state (Schaufeli, et. al., 2009). Understanding work motivation and work-related stress and
burnout is in correlation to career development issues and ways to manage this will help alleviate
a portion of Christopher’s frustrations.
