• Occur due to meiotic non-disjunction (95%) ,
translocation(4% ; 14,21 & 22) or mosaicism (1%).
• Incidence is 1 in 800
• Increases with age of mother – 1 in 400 at 35 years and 1 in
100 at 40 years
