Provide care according to the resident’s comprehensive care plan. Topic 2 How does a CNA provide for a resident’s comfort? Create a positive home-like environment, help the resident develop trust, offer emotional support and work with the family, and communicate/ actively listen. What must a person do to become a CNA and maintain certification? Background checks, physical examinations, training, experience, and both a written/skill competency evaluation. Explain ethical behavior. The act of behaving ethically, to a legal standpoint. Explain accountability. Accountability is being able to accept both your right and wrong-doings. What is confidentiality?Confidentiality is being able to keep details of your patients strictly to yourself or your charge nurse. What must a CNA do to present a “positive personal image”?Take good care of your personal health, hygiene, appearance, and state of mind. List the reasons why a CNA would have a complaint on the Nurse Aide Registry. A complaint of abuse, or misappropriation of resident’s property/funds, or neglect. Topic 3 How does a CNA assist the health care team to identify the needs of the resident?By observing and reporting information to the health care team. What is the difference between an objective and subjective observation?Objective Includes data available through the senses, such as the sight of a rash, the sound of a cough, the smell of unusual odors, and the touch of swelling under the skin.Subjective includes information reported by a resident about how he or she is feeling. Statements such as “I’m tired,” “I’m dizzy,” “I can’t see,” “My ears are ringing”. To whom does the CNA report?The nurse on duty. Give examples of observations that should be reported immediately. Foul/unusual odors, swelling, cough, rash, fever, diarrhea. What is the procedure for correcting an error in documentation? Draw a single line through the error, write the word error, and initial/ date the correction.
