P1: Describe how care values support users of
services, using relevant examples.
There are variety of care values within the health and social care sector that support service
users. There are useful values or concepts that protect health and social care is delivered in
the ideal way. The care values help to improve the individual’s lives, rather than making it
harder.

Confidentiality is a very important value in health and social care. Confidentiality is very
important as it means not to share an individual’s personal information with others such as
their friends or work colleagues. When is come to confidentiality there are some aspects
that need to be followed such as, not discussing about an individuals to another individual,
not sharing written information without permission. Within this task I have chosen two
health and social care setting that I will be evaluating, which are a residential setting for
older people and a training centre for young adults with learning disabilities.

The duty of confidentiality is based on trust and respect, this is a fundamental to safe and
effective care. An example of this is, working in a residential setting with older people that
can be challenging if you do not have a good relationship with your patient. Working with
elderly’s can be very stressful and can be time consuming.

In order to provide in person centred social care for the residential care home there are 8
values that needs to be understand and promoted. The 8 values are Individuality, Rights,
Choice, Privacy, Independence, Dignity, Respect and partnership.

As a care worker you have an important part to play in helping individuals to maintain their
independence, leaving them with control over their lives and sporting them to make the
choices which matter to them. Service users should never feel that the decisions are made
about them without their involvement or consent. A negative example of a care worked, a
care worker tells a services user that they need to have a bath but the service use disagrees
with that decision and likes to have a bath later on in the day however the care worker
refuses and forces the serves user to have a bath now.

To be able to provide the person centred support you would find yourselves working in
partnership with the service user and a range of key people. The key people would be the
people in the individual’s life who could make a difference to their health and social well-
being.

Keeping information confidential means not gossiping about a service user with your work
friends or discussing information with family of the service user or friends of the service user
unless you have been given permission by the service user to do so
