NR501Week 1: Importance of Theory in Nursing (Latest Update) Already Graded A+
NR501Week 1: Importance of Theory in Nursing 4 For many students enrolled in NR501, this is an initial course for nursing theory. So, let’s have a debate!!! Is nursing theory important to the nursing profession? If you believe that it is important, explain why it is useful. If you do not believe that it is useful, explain why nursing theory is not necessary to the profession? Be sure to provide an example that demonstrates your opinion and a scholarly reference (not using the required textbook or lesson) which supports your opinion. Nursing theory is one of the foundational concepts of modern nursing. It empowers nurses to pursue more advanced concepts into practice, and promotes evidence based practice. It expands and allows growth in the nursing profession and it a key component to global nursing expansion. Nursing theory is important to nursing because it allows the development of philosophy, frameworks, research, and application into the profession. According to Alligood, nursing theory was heavily promoted in the 1970’s when it became a known concept that without proper research and theories, nursing would be isolated and never expand (2017, p.4). Nursing is a profession that is fluid. It will always be moving forward and changing, and that is the beauty of nursing. Theory frameworks allows us to continue to strive to advance concepts and expand our autonomy as nurses. According to Alligood, theory development came into life when nursing scholars pursued more advance degrees and demanded to implement theories to predict nursing outcomes, and establish nursing research and practice ideas (2017 p.5). Nursing theories and research improves current practice and promotes advanced patient care as a whole. The subject of nursing theories has expanded into general nursing education and is a foundational concept that every nurse is required to obtain. As a nurse it is extremely important in my daily practice that I implement new education and research into patient care. Using continuing education courses and advancing my education to a masters level has allowed me to implement concepts such as new treatment plans, pain management and educational tools. This would not be possible without the pursuit of nursing theories that empower us to expand our nursing minds. Allowing nursing theory to amplify gives nurses the opportunity to pursue advanced education and excellent patient care. According to Nickitas and Frederickson, the relationship between nursing to theory-guided practice helps bring awareness to nursing performance and allows the integrating of knowledge and theory into clinical practice (2015 p.239). This reiterates my stance on the importance of the theory in nursing. Without nursing theories there would be a standstill in the profession. There would be a lack of growth and it would decline in patient care and treatment. There would be less success rates throughout patient care, because there would be no knowledge to implement and advance their care. Nursing theory truly is the future of nursing profession and will continue to amplify it for years to come. Alligood, M. R. (2017). Nursing Theory-E-Book: Utilization & Application.
