German International GCSE Speaking Exam
You will be shown a picture and asked to describe it. The requirement is that each picture will include
people, objects and an activity/ an interaction.
The Examiner may repeat but not re-phrase a question. If you need the question to be repeated then
ask:
“Können Sie die Frage wiederholen, bitte?”
If the Examiner requires more information from a candidate they will say one of these
phrases:
Und was noch?
Etwas noch?
Kannst du noch mehr darüber sagen?
Erzähl mir bitte etwas mehr
You will invariably be asked to describe what a person in the picture are wearing.

Sie trägt eine Jacke
Sie trägt einen Rock
Sie trägt einen Schal
Sie trägt einen Badeanzug
Sie trägt eine Halskette
, Note that the ACCUSATIVE CASE will follow the verb ‘tragen’
An important point to remember is that the German verb ‘tragen’ also means ‘to carry’ and
therefore it may be that the Examiner is asking what the person is carrying; this will be clear
from the picture.
