Awareness of legislation and how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice is important when
working in the health and social care sector. You have been asked to prepare a report that explains and
assesses the influence of national initiatives in a specialist care home for individuals with learning
difficulties and difficult behaviour.

Task 1 (P4)

Explain how national initiatives promote anti-discriminatory practice in a specialist care home by
referring to the information below:

Prepare a report investigating the Time to Change initiative and the Dignity in Care Act and how they
promote anti-discriminatory practice in a specialist care home for people with learning disabilities or
difficult behaviour. Your report needs to:

(i) Outline both the Time to Change national initiative and the Dignity in Care Act

(ii) Explain how the 2 national initiatives, outlined above, promote anti-discriminatory practice in a
specialist care home for individuals with learning difficulties by referring to:

 Relevant legislation

 Codes of practice and charters

 Codes of conduct by professional bodies

 Policies and procedures
