MED SURG HESI VERSION 2/Assessment and Health and Illness Beliefs
Assessment and Health and Illness Beliefs As a nurse, you need to build trusting relationships with patients. Part of forming a trust is listening to each patient's individual needs and having an understanding of his or her culture. An assessment is the collection of data about a patient's healthcare or state. It is a technique that collects and analyzes all of the data about the patient's medical history. Data collection comes with reviewing the clinical health record, history, physical examination, functional assessment, risk assessment, review of the literature, and document relative relevant data. According to our textbook, health is defined as the balance of the person, both within one's being (physical, mental, or spiritual) and in the outside world (natural, communal, or metaphysical)(Jarvis, 2020). In the health care setting, we encounter many different spiritual meanings for different types of people. Culture has four basic characteristics - learned from birth through the processes of language acquisition and socialization; shared by all members of the same cultural group; adapted to specific conditions related to environmental and technical factors and the availability of natural resources. And dynamic and ever-changing (Jarvis, 2020). A wide variety of cultures exists for specific symptoms and disease conditions that are perceived, diagnosed, labeled, and treated. Some patients think that disease and illness come from a biomedical, naturalistic, holistic, or a magicorereligious perspective. Biomedical is also known as a scientific theory of disease. This means that an illness has a cause and effect. Healthcare and medical staff believe that This study source was downloaded by from CourseH
