Tectonic Plates
Tectonic plates are large blocks of rock that make up the Earth and move slowly and
continuously. There are 52 plates, 14 major and 38 minor.
Types of plates: Continental, oceanic, and continental oceanic.
The movements of the plates can be: Moving apart, moving toward, and sliding past each other.
Plate Boundaries (Correspond to the meeting zones between plates): Divergent, convergent,
and transforming.
Why do tectonic plates move: The movements occur because of the high internal temperatures
of planet Earth.
The movement of the plates results in the formation of mountains, volcanic activity, earthquakes,
tsunamis, etc.
