Selection of two Business and why I have chosen them?

The two businesses that I have chosen are Marks and Spencer which is a retail
business and Oxfam which is a charity business. The reason why I have chosen
these two businesses is because one is for profit which is Marks and Spencer
and not for profit which is Oxfam as they are a charity.

Features of a Business – P1

Explaining the main features of a business?

The main feature of a business is what type of ownership they operate in such
as sole trader where you are working by yourself, partnership where you have
someone else working with you, public limited companies, and private limited
companies. Another main feature of a business is that they deal with the goods
and the services. The goods can be consumer goods such as milk, biscuits,

bread, clothes, and shoes. Business also deals with services such as accounting,
banking, transport and repairing.

Businesses can be made up of primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary
sectors. The primary sector is when you are harvesting products from Earth
such as the raw materials which are then processed and made as a product.
The secondary sector is when you use the raw materials and make them into
products or manufacturing them such as bakers and factory workers. The
tertiary sector is when you are providing people with a service such as
accounting, banking, and transport. The quaternary sector is the jobs within
the hi-tech computerised industries such as web design and data analysis.

A purpose of a business is the overall mission that the business wants to
achieve over its life cycle. For an example the purpose for a not-for-profit
business would be to raise money for the course so that it can therefore be
reinvested. Another example for a purpose would be for a private limited
company as their main purpose would be to achieve high sales and profits by
being able to reinvest into the business by providing the product and service
that the customers want to achieve their profits.

Another feature of business is their scope of activity. This defines whether a
business is local, national, and international. A local business means that a
business that provides the goods or services to a small or local population. A
National business means that it is a type of business where it operates within
the borders of a country. An international business is where a business
provides goods and services in multiple countries.

The size of a business defines how big or small a business is. Micro businesses
will only contain 9 staff members working for the business. The next is called
small business where it will only have up to 20. The next after small business is
called Medium Business and this is where you will have 49 staff members
working for the business. The last one

The reasons why businesses will be very successful will determine what type of
business they are as in what types of goods and services they provide. The way
a business will define themselves as successful is assessing whether they have
achieved their aims and objectives such as clarity of vision and innovative
products. This means that each business aims, and objectives will be very
different or similar.

All businesses would need aims and objectives to define their purpose of the
business which will then identify how to achieve the aim, all aims must be
